Obituary

Doris Jane Hodgins (Woods) of Parkhill passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 in her 89th year at the Chartwell Parkhill Long Term Care Residence.

Doris and Clark (2018) were married for 62 years and raised their family of Dianne Vermunt (John O'Neil), Karen (Tony) Timmermans, Kevin Hodgins (Donna Lumani) and Marilyn (Bill) Watson on the family farm in McGillivray Township. Doris leaves behind a legacy of 20 Grandchildren and 34 Great Grandchildren.

Doris is survived by sister Marjorie (Cliff) Martin and is predeceased by her brother Clarence (Julia) Woods and parents Victor and Ruby Woods.

Doris was the quintessential daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and mother in law. She grew up in an era filled with nostalgia and idealism raising a loving family who remained devoted to her; she can now rest in peace with her loving husband Clark.

Doris spent her life caring for others, spending much of her nursing career serving at local nursing homes and became the first Director of Nursing at Chateau Gardens, now Chartwell Long Term Care, when it was originally opened.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 7th, from 4pm - 7pm at M.Box & Son Funeral, 183 Broad Street in Parkhill with a service conducted on Wednesday, January 8th at 1pm, with Reverend Sherry DeJonge officiating. Interment to follow at the Parkhill Cemetery.

An Eastern Star Service will take place on Tuesday, January 7, at 3:30 prior to visitation.

Donations can be made to the Chartwell Long Term Care Memorial Fund or the St. James Anglican Church in Parkhill. Arrangements are entrusted to M.Box & Son Funeral Home, 183 Broad Street in Parkhill. Please share a memory or condolence online at www.gilpinfuneralchapel.com

My deepest sympathies go out to all of you. I didnt know your mom very well but have heard so many stories and shared traditions from Julie of her growing up. To lose someone so special is very hard, no matter how old we are. The memories and stories are what we hold onto forever. xoxo

My condolences to the Hodgins family. I only knew your Mom for about 2 years, while I was Administrator at Chateau Gardens Parkhill , now Chartwell Long Term Care. Also got to know Diane and Karen ... reliable student kitchen helpers in those years. Your Mom was truly a dedicated leader and caring nurse. She brought a lot of stability to a brand new home and building, while I was a "rookie" Administrator. I well remember the time she put out an electrical fire with a hand extinguisher, averting what could have been a much more serious event. Even though our paths have not crossed over the years, I hold Doris and you, her family, in high regards. Knowing your Mom was a pleasure.
