Margaret Elizabeth (Trott) (Brown) Furtney originally of Mt. Bridges, passed away peacefully at Chartwell Long Term Care Residence in Parkhill on Friday, July 10, 2020, in her 95th year.

Margaret was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Furtney (1999) and Hugh Brown (1973)
Dear mother of Robert Brown (2010) (Carol) of Atlanta, Georgia, their children Emma (Michael) Savage and Elisa Brown, all of Seattle. Daughter, Janis Capes of Otter Lake. Her children, Sarah Capes, Michael Capes, and Jenny (Bryan) Chandler. Her Great Grandchildren, Ben and Audrey Chandler, all of Ottawa. Dear Stepmother of Douglas & Connie Furtney of Forest, Scott & Heather Furtney of Port Dover, Blair & Diane Furtney of Sylvan, and Bruce & Janice Furtney of Mitchell.

Loving Nana & Grandma of Katherine (Ryan), Emily, Lauren (Corey), Joel (Melissa), Matthew (Donna), Leah (Dan), Carla (Richard), Craig (Jessica), Chad (Ashley), and Stacy. Margaret is blessed with 17 Furtney Great Grandchildren and one great expectation. Fondly remembered by her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Margaret is predeceased by her parents Stanley (1942) and Sadie (Fisher) Trott (1987) and brothers Ewart Trott (February 1925) and Jack (1998) & Norma (2013) Trott. Also predeceased by her in-laws Stan (2010) and Ruth (2005) Furtney of Fonthill, Alice (2010) & Doug Hayter (2007) of Thedford. Alma (1993) & James Bocking, Ottawa, Harvey (1963) and Marjory Brown, Windsor, Haig (2013) & Lilly (2014) of Windsor, Pat (1985) & Margaret (2010) Brown, White Lake Michigan, Alice (2008) & Milton Legg, Belmont, and niece of Velma Fisher(2007) Strathroy,

Margaret began her teaching career at the age of 19 at Parkhill Memorial School and met the love of her life, Hugh T Brown, at a dance in Grand Bend. After farming in McGillivray Twp for a few years, they, with 7 yr old Robert and 4 yr old Janis, moved to Parkhill. Margaret spent many years teaching the children of Parkhill including her own two in Grades 3 & 4. She went on to complete her career at Stephen Central School, Crediton. When asked at the age of 86 whether she enjoyed her career, Margaret's response was an unequivocal - " I LOVED IT!" Special family gatherings with great memories were made with the Brown and Trott families; support and love were freely given to Hugh and Margaret as a couple in times of need. Special acknowledgement to the late Dr. William Scrimgeour for his care and friendship.

An organized and detailed woman, Margaret was meticulous in planning the big and small day to day events, including the many details of her own memorial service. Taking great pride in her family, Margaret wanted to be sure her many family members, whom she loved so abundantly, were noted as her pride and joy.

Special thanks to thoughtful friends and family who made Margaret's later years cheerful.... and a little less lonely; John Trott, Susan Trott, Diane & Jessica Furtney, Gayle George, Valarie Thomson, Lynda Earley, and Doreen McLinchey " To the Gems of Parkhill", the nurses, staff and Dr. Whynot of Chartwell Parkhill, your extraordinary care and dedication in your diligence to protect your residence against the COVID pandemic in addition to the day to daycare is much appreciated.

Janis, this will be a difficult time for you as losing a parent at whatever age is terribly sad, ..the child within each of us hangs on to all the childhood memories of their Mom forever.Your Mom did indeed teach me in Grades 3&4...and will always be remembered as a happy, energetic caring person. My favourite time of day in her classroom was when she would sit and read to book I recall was , “The Happy Holisters”... she influenced the lives of many many children. I am sorry for your loss.

Hi Mary, thank you for you kind comments. Yes it was hard to say goodbye, having her apart of my life for so long but it's part of life isn't it.

Tonight I have learned of the death of Marg (Brown) Furtney whom I have known, appreciated, respected, and enjoyed for many many years. To the family whose lives have decreased since her loss, I extend my condolences. Alas, not many in Marg’s family will remember me, apart from Janis who was a friend of my sister, Mary (Johnstone) Meaden. Be assured that Marg was a contributing member of the Parkhill community for as many years as she lived there.

Hello Bob, Yes I do remember you. Being in your home with Mary and seeing her brothers ! My Mom had alot of energy which I do not think I inherited. Robert did, , we called it the TROTT ENERGY. she was was a hard worker and loved to teach. she took it so seriously to have her students ready for the next year and she did ! Interesting how she came back to live her final days in Parkhill. A long drive for us esp. me but she had so many nice visits from peple in the area and of course my step family the Furtneys. Take care Bob

We were so sorry to hear of Marg’s passing, our condolences to Janis, Robert’s family and the Furtney family. Growing up next-door to Robert and Janis was great fun. Marg was so friendly to us as children. After I moved to Strathroy Marg and Bill kept up my relationship with them both professionally and as friends. Marg is a person who kept a positive attitude throughout her life and was a pleasure to know. Rob and Jayne Waters

So lovely to hear from you both Rob and Jayne. We really enjoyed having you apart of our family Robbie.(see I still call you that lol). A fond memory for me was when you and Robert planted the firecrackers in your Moms tulips bed in front of her super clean front window and light them and then ran and hid in Mrs. Wrights buses. Robert had never seen Mrs. Water get so angry lolol at point he saw his own Mother get that angry lolol.. To my enjoyment. We had wonderful neighbours ! all the best to you both, Janis

To the Furtneys and the Brown Families,
Sending my hugs and prayers! Marg was a lovely classy lady always showing an interest in others. She loved and appreciated her family and all each of you did to make her life a better one. She was an inspirational woman to many! She has left her mark on many people and the community that she loved so much. Cherish your memories of all the fun times.

janis capes Posted at 04:58pm

Thank you Bertha so much for taking the take to acknowledge our loss. We had alot of fun in our home . My Dad Hugh Brown, Mm , Robert and I all had quick sense of humours and alot of laughs and sad times too with my dad 's mental illness but boy our family fought for him along with Dr. Scrimgeour and back he came to us. It was hurtful when some would gossip but we had a strong mother who stood by her hubby, I give my Mom full credit for saving my father along with Dr. Bill Scrimgeious as would Dad. We were so fortunate to have a great Doctor and friend In Bill Scrimgeour !! Take care, janis
