On April 28, 2021, Irene Toren at age 94, passed away peacefully with family at her side at the Bluewater Health hospital in Sarnia.
Irene is predeceased by her adoring husband Gerald Toren, and her two brothers Crawford and George.
She will be dearly missed by her children Allan (Karen) and Joanne (Pulie) along with her grandchildren Andrew (Elise), Paul, Rachel (Daniel), Jennifer (Mark) and Mary Jo (Sean).
Irene was a wonderful great-Oma to Matthias, Malachi, Mikka, Madalynn, Callum, Norah and Leo.
Irene was a lifelong member of Forest Bible Chapel. She faithfully served her community over the many years; in 2019 she received recognition for 25 years of service as a volunteer and driver for Lambton Shore Elderly Outreach. She was also an organizer and coach for the Blind Bowlers of Sarnia. Irene created beautiful hand knit items to support local charities and maternity wards.
Irene's beautiful handmade needlepoint, blankets, quilts and clothes will be cherished by her family. She was a gifted and avid gardener who enjoyed watching the birds as they relished in her spectacular gardens. Irene took pleasure in collecting stamps from around the world and different eras. Irene enjoyed a good puzzle, travelling abroad and spending time at Ipperwash beach with family. She was always eager to play Crokinole and Scrabble with whoever was up for a challenge.
Irene's legacy of unfailing faith and joy in her Lord Jesus Christ will be treasured by her family.
Irene was very well loved by her family and community. Although many may like to honour and celebrate Irene's life, an intimate private family funeral will be held. We ask that you respect the wishes of her family.
For those who wish, donations can be made in her memory to Operation Smile (https://operationsmile.ca) or The Canadian Bible Society (https://biblesociety.ca).
