Peter Robert Hanner of Port Franks passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health in Sarnia on Thursday, February 18, 2021, at the age of 73 after a four-year courageous battle with cancer.

Peter was the best friend and loving husband of Jenny Hanner for 50 years. The couple originally met and married in England before moving to Canada where they went on to raise their son Darryl and daughter, Dawn. They were thrilled to welcome their daughter-in-law Michelle to the family and grandchildren Mackenzie and Nicholas.

Peter was raised in a small family with 2 sisters, Jean McFarlane (Pete) of Arizona and Wendy Dugdale (Ian) of England. Peter is also predeceased by his parents Leonard and Doris Hanner. He will be greatly missed by family, many relations, especially in England, and friends, in Canada and the USA.

An extremely proud Papa both Peter and Jenny loved traveling to Hockey tournaments to watch Nicholas and Cheerleading competitions to watch Mackenzie. They also enjoyed boating, taking cruises, and visiting Myrtle Beach. Peter was a talented carpenter, using his skills for anything from repairs to building his own home, and will be sorely missed by his many customers and friends.

A public service is not planned at this time. Family and friends look forward to a celebration of Peter's life later in the year 2021. Peter's family continue to remember him for his caring personality, a loyal husband, and a good friend. Donations are appreciated to the Canadian Cancer Society of The Lifeskills Centre in London.

Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King Street East in Forest. 519-786-4964. Please leave a memory or condolence online at

Pete was such an amazing man and a true friend of our whole family. He was always there for us whenever we needed anything. As a kid growing up I always looked up to him and thought he was the best. We all have so many incredible memories to look back on and I am grateful for every one of them. From our camping trips together to our trip to Vegas to him spending a month in Toronto helping to renovate our house. Pete you were a great man and you will be missed. Love Kris and Mike

Peter, you were such an amazing brother, even though we did have our spats as kids, because we were so close in age I only ever remember playing with you when we were kids. You truly were my First Best Friend! Every photo I have when we were kids is of the both of us I don't think Mum ever took a photo of just one of us. Through all your terrible illness, you never complained, you took it all in your stride. I will miss hearing your voice, and miss not having you in my life, but you will always be in my heart and all the wonderful memories we had growing up. Rest in peace my little brother xx

We met Peter years ago when he came to do work for The London Winery. Over the years Peter has done a number of projects for our family. I remember calling him in a panic, cause my closet caved in and I didn’t want my husband to know! Peter to the rescue! My hero! We could always count him and his amazing carpentry skills! He became like one of the family.
Peter was such a happy, Kind and hardworking guy. Always more than willing to help out. We have really enjoyed our visits with Peter and Jenny over the years. Peter will always have a Special place in our hearts. He will be dearly missed.
Heartfelt Sympathy to Jenny and The Family . Know that You are in our Thoughts and Prayers .
