Loved and loving, does not begin to describe Olive Elizabeth Neilson of Parkhill, who passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021, at the age of 96, just five days short of celebrating 67 years of marriage to her beloved, John Neilson.

Olive was walking home one evening when John called out to ask if she would like to go to a local dance with him, six months later, they were wed, and worked side by side with each other at their refrigeration business where Olive looked after the bookkeeping, phone calls, and customer service for almost 60 years. The two enjoyed simply spending time together and going to favourite restaurants for special date nights. John describes Olive as the perfect companion, his kind and beautiful wife with whom he was privileged to share her life with.

Olive spent her last few years in the wonderful care of the staff at Chartwell Parkhill. There John visited every day until the pandemic occurred, but even a pandemic could not keep John from seeing his wife, visiting at her window, and even investing in a wireless communication set so they could hear each other's voices during his window visits.

Olive will be missed by her sister-in-law Evelyn Harmer and several nieces and nephews and will be remembered as a hardworking, constant support of her loved husband John.

Donations in Olive's name are appreciated to Chartwell Parkhill, and condolences can be made online at or mailed in care of John Neilson to M.Box & Son Funeral Home 183 Broad St., in Parkhill N0M 2K0 where arrangements are entrusted.

We are so sorry to hear of Olive’s passing. Condolences to John and all the family. I remember well the few years Olive and I sang in the Church choir. She had a lovely voice and knew a lot of the hymns from memory. It was my delight to host both John and Olive at our winter home in Arizona. Thought and prayers are with you at this sad time.
