Obituary for Thomas Hubbard Potthoff

Thomas Hubbard Potthoff peacefully passed away on October 9, 2020, at Strathroy General Hospital with his loving wife and family at his side.

Tom is survived by best friend and wife of 28 years Jean Potthoff and is survived by his brother Bruce (Ann) Potthoff of Tucson Arizona, his sons Tom Jr. and Jeff (Sheila), stepchildren Brent Shea, Blair Shea, Erin (Nicole) Shea and Janine (Gary) Boynton. Tom has seven grandchildren: Devin Potthoff, Colin and Nicole Shea, Owen and Shelby Cozier, Patricia Marshal and Victoria Boynton. Tom is predeceased by his brothers Ted Potthoff, Ed Potthoff, and Bob Potthoff.

Born in Detroit Michigan, Tom was raised and grew up in Dearborn and enjoyed boating on Lake Huron during his summers in Ipperwash, Ontario, Canada. Stationed in California Tom proudly served his country as a Petty Officer 1st class on several destroyer class vessels in the US Navy. Family was very important, and Tom was known to make many personal sacrifices for his children.

Tom’s caring personality and sense of community were self-evident through his public service with the Centre Ipperwash Community Association. Tom enjoyed history, music, live theatre, lawn bowling in Forest, was an expert woodworker and truly loved traveling extensively with Jean.

No public service is planned as per Tom’s wishes. Cremation has taken place and a private family memorial of scattering Tom's ashes will be performed in Ipperwash.­­
