Douglas James Bell of Thedford died peacefully at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, on Friday, September 25th, 2020, at the age of 64.
The loved husband of Barbara; Barbara knew she had found the man she would marry the first day she met him and she did. Doug and Barbara enjoyed and grew together for 42 years as a married couple.
The cherished father of Kristyn & Tim Wilson, Doug's greatest moment of pride was the day his little girl was born, and he quickly went about picking out a pretty pink dress to show off his little girl in. Doug was later blessed with the gift of 3 grandson's, becoming a Pop to Owen (Alexa Fleury), Hayden and, Nate, a gift that made Doug beam with pride.
Doug was the eldest son of Marie and the late Marshall Bell and brother to Tom & Gabriella, Steve & Debbie, Brother in law - John Cadman, Nancy and John Mandly, Charles Pawis, Star Brass, Donna Hahn, Elizabeth Elson, Ron Brass, Sherry & Dave Earhart. Doug is predeceased by his sister Joanne Cadman, sister in law Christine Bell, sister in law June Bell, brother-in-law Bill Brass and nephews Shawn Bell and Mathew Elson
Doug spent his working days driving short and long haul runs, and had many more talents including Master Igloo Maker, bird watcher, Firefighter, and Famed #2 Fan at his grandson's hockey games. A man who never missed an anniversary or birthday, Doug was notorious with his thoughtfulness in his gift-giving at special events.
Doug could not have been more proud of his family, enjoying all of the get-togethers, and planning events that inevitably he would get himself and cousin Karen voted out of each meeting. Spending time together with family at back yard barbeque's were what Doug loved most, only made sweeter with a bag of Chicago Mix and a handful of treats. The tall, blue-eyed man, who developed a personal relationship with his Saviour in his own timing, which gave great peace to Doug.
A private family service, in casual attire, will take place at Pinehill Cemetery with honoured pallbearers, Owen, Hayden, Nate, Jason, Chad, Jordan, Everett, and Matt, officiated by Rev. Dr. Christine O'Reilly and co-officiated by Rev. Mark Isaac.
With Doug's love of his community and the youth in the area in mind, donations are appreciated by the family to Knox Presbyterian Church, with special designation to the area Youth Programs.
A sincere special thank you to Patty and Ryan of Bayshore Community Care, and the nursing staff of the palliative care unit at Bluewater Health.
Life wasn't always easy, but he was always loved, and he loved us.
