Annemiek Hols-Van Humbeck, born Alida Thalina Maria Hols, passed away on Friday the 28th of August at the age of 60. Annemiek was the loving mother of the Hols-Van Humbeck Family. She is survived by her beloved husband George Van Humbeck, whom she affectionately called Liefie; her three troublesome “chicklets” Nathan & Brittany, Aaron & Samantha, and Maryke & Matthew; her granddaughter Tarja; as well as her sisters Loesje & Mike Tucker and Marijke Hols & Marilyn Graham. Missed sister in law of Russel & Joanne Van Humbeck, Shirley & Rick Verkaik, Thom Van Humbeck, and daughter in law of Eileen Van Humbeck & Lloyd Wright. Annemiek will be missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.

Annemiek was born in The Netherlands, on August 15th, 1960 and immigrated to Chatham with her family at the age of 7. Despite leaving Holland at a young age, Annemiek maintained a strong connection with her Dutch heritage and traditions that have been passed down to her children. Affectionately known as “Meikie” by her family and friends she met George while living in Chatham before moving to Sarnia where they raised their family together. Annemiek is predeceased by her parents Klaas Martinus Hols and Altje Hols Gijsbertsen.

Annemiek’s family fondly remembers how watching the fireworks at Magic Kingdom was her absolute favourite part of visiting Disney. Annemiek would also keep her children home from school on occasion to have a mother-child date in which it was required to keep the adventure a secret from both the school and dad. She shared her love of the Snow Birds with her children and while they were not sure they would enjoy the experience, she was right, as always. Annemiek also loved travelling to Europe including visits to her homeland. She loved working at Sears in Sarnia; helping others was her dream job that she did so well.

Annemiek’s memory and spirit will remain with her family as they celebrate her favourite holiday, Christmas, by continuing to place exorbitant amounts of elves around the house, watching Elf, and blasting Christmas music as early as November 1st.
She was love,
She was laughter,
She was kindness,
A sister,
A wife,
A mother,
An Oma,
A Tante.
We are missing you more than words can say.

Donations in Annemiek's name to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully welcomed. Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King St., East in Forest. Please leave a memory or condolence online at

We are very saddened to hear about Annemiek’s passing. We have many wonderful memories of times spent together with George and Annemiek, including trips to Provence, France, dinners at Ups n Downs, touring Niagara wineries and just getting together and laughing. Some favourite memories are dancing with Annemiek to her favourite ABBA songs and touring the markets stalls in Provence. She was way too young to pass and our hearts go out to her family.

Sincere Sympathy George in the passing of your beloved wife; way too young and shortly after you had both retired. I'm so sorry to read this. Treasure the wonderful memories you have of her.

I worked with Annemiek at as a hairstylist before and after she became a mother. Her greatest joy was her family, her children, her husband, and her granddaughter. She was the proudest mother ever. She had the most beautiful and amazing smile. Rest In Peace beautiful friend.- Cindy Harness

I worked with Annemiek for many years at First Choice, and she was part of a very special group of coworkers that I will remember for the rest of my life. She was a great lady and she loved her family above everything.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you George, Nathan, Aaron, Maryke and Tarja.

George, Nathan, Aaron, Maryke , and other family. We are so very sorry for your great loss. I cherise the moments we had together when we ( Dad, Mam and I) where in Canada. She let me taste a nice Pina Colada when we where in Canada. Each time when i take one i will remember Annemiek. But the Pina Colada here in Holland is not so nice as the one Annemiek make me. When i spoke to her it whas always nice. She talks englisch and i talk Dutch and Annemiek tried to talk Dutch too. She will be missed . Now she will be an Angel in heaven and watch over all off you. Monique Arno and mam.
