Mary Beaumont Wade of Forest passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 26, 2020, at North Lambton Lodge in Forest in her 96th year.
Mary is reunited with her late husband William Ross Wade (1994) and will be missed by her sister in law Mary MacKenzie and her many nieces and nephews including, John, Alex, and Robert MacKenzie, Terry Wade, Lynn Day, Gregory Sweeney, Mary Sweeney, and Lindsay Jane Brydges. Mary is also predeceased by her nephew William MacKenzie, her parents, and her only brother Bill MacKenzie.
Mary grew up in Stratford before moving to Forest, where her father owned the local pharmacy next to the Kineto movie theatre. With family home values and an educational priority, Mary went on to graduate in 1947 from the University of Toronto, before becoming a school teacher, specializing in Home Economics. Mary had fond memories of working for a test kitchen in Boston, and enjoyed her first year of teaching as she began her career in Kapuskasing.
Mary was also an avid spinner of wool, spinning bags of wool, often then knitting them into socks for her extended family. A woman who knew the ins and outs of wool, it's properties, usages, and care for, Mary wrote her own encyclopedia on the topic. A strong-willed, independent, and practical woman who could change her own tires and loved to drive her Volkswagen Beetle throughout Toronto in the 1960s, Mary is loved and will be missed deeply by all whose lives she touched.
A sincere thank you to North Lambton Lodge, to the nurse and Personal Support Workers who made Mary's time with the gals there a delight. Donations rather than flowers are appreciated to the North Lambton Lodge Auxiliary in Mary's name. A private graveside service will take place at Beechwood Cemetery with Rev. Joanne MacOdrum officiating, to be arranged after the quarantine restrictions have been lifted.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King Street East, in Forest, 519-786-4964. Please leave a memory or condolence online at www.GilpinFuneralChapel.com
