Willy Ludovicus Marie Michielsens of Grand Bend, passed away peacefully with family at his side at Chartwell Long-Term Care in Parkhill on December 7, 2019, in his 84th year.
Willy was born on October 18, 1936, in Kapellen-Antwerp-Belgium to Waltherus (†1992) and Maria (nee Van Riel) (†1986) Michielsens, and was the brother of Anny Michielsens. The family endured WW2 while they lived on a farm in Belgium before immigrating to Canada in 1952 settling in Grand Bend. They cleared the land and built their homestead and farm. Willy later purchased the neighbouring farm and started his family with his wife Agnes Michielsens (nee DeLodder), and children; Linda (Larry Taylor), Vera (Chris Neu), twins Sarah & Walter W.M. (†1967), Walter, Dinah (†2006) and Frieda (James Eddy). Grandfather to Jeremy, Joshua, Lucas, Henry, Ethan, Hannah, Samantha, Alysha, and Abigail.
Willy was known to enjoy long conversations with a great, quirky sense of humour. Over the years, Willy's health and ability to communicate decreased due to numerous strokes starting when he was only 52; but something that never changed was his love for his family and the depth of his smile for those who were near him.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Chartwell Long Term Care in Parkhill. Every day he knew he was cared for, and every day you made him smile. The care you gave him was exceptional. We cannot thank you enough for making every moment to his last special. Special thanks to Dr. Whynot for the care and compassion that went above and beyond in the most needed times.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, December 14, 2019, at Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 123 King St. East in Forest from 11am-1pm with a service following at 1pm with Father Tony Laforet officiating. At the family's request, a private interment to take place at Beechwood Cemetery.
To honour Willy, and his family's love for nature, Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers would be appreciated by the family to Lakeshore Eco-Network, or the Lambton Shores Nature Trails.
Arrangements are entrusted to Gilpin Funeral Chapel, please leave a memory or condolence online at www.GilpinFuneralChapel.com
