Obituary

Gorth - Mark Conrad

With sorrow and thanksgiving for a life well lived, the family announces the death of Mark Conrad Gorth on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019, at the age of 94, at Bluewater Health in Sarnia.

Mark was the beloved husband of Mildred (Crouch) for 65 years, devoted father of Alan (Cindy) Gorth and Julie Vallieres (Rob Schutte). Grandpa of Amy (Matt), Eric, Laura, Mark, Alicia, Holly (Geoffrey), Becky (Allan) and Andrew (Farrahn). Great Grandpa to Everett, Aiden, Connery, Jaime-Li, Allan, and Emma. Mark is survived by his brother Edward (Jeannette) Gorth and brother-in-law George Crouch. Predeceased by sister Margaret (Ken) Brown and sister-in-law Pat Crouch. Mark will be missed by his extended family, friends, and church family.

Mark attended elementary school in Galt and Galt Collegiate Institute where he was the lieutenant and leader of the GCI Cadet Bugle Band. A proud graduate of London Normal School and The University of Western Ontario, Mark went on to teach elementary school for 40 years and enjoy 35 years of retirement. Mark began teaching in a one room school house SS#10 in Somerville County near Bobcaygeon, taught in Galt, Windsor, and Sarnia where he became a principal. Mark loved music, playing many instruments including the trumpet and the banjo, and was a dedicated member of the MelodYaires and St. Bartholomew's choir. The songs played on Mark's ukelele were always enjoyed while he camped in his 1967 Rambler trailer with Mildred, with whom he loved to travel and dance. Mark was involved in many service clubs including the Masons where he played the musette in the Lambton Shriner's Oriental Band.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 from 10am - 11am at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 718 Cathcart Blvd in Sarnia, followed by a service to celebrate Mark's life at 11am with Reverend Raymond Hodgson officiating.

The family would like to thank Ann Pearce, Dr. Monk, Dr. Lilly and the staff at Bluewater Health for their steadfast and loving help throughout this difficult time. Donations are appreciated in Mark's name to the St. Joseph's Hospice or The Inn Of The Good Shepherd.

Arrangements are entrusted to Sarnia Cremation Services, please leave a memory or condolence online at www.SarniaCremationServices.com

I remember Mr Gorth as a sharp dresser, smooth dancer and great story teller. He was a dear friend of my mother's and the dad of one of my childhood best friends. May he rest in peace. Sending love to Mildred, Alan and Julie. Wishing you strength and comfort during this difficult time.
