Obituary for Anne Marie Zavitz

Print
Anne Marie Zavitz – Mom, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Coach, Athlete. Loved.

Suddenly, at the age of 39 on Sunday, October 21, 2018, Anne Marie’s huge heart gave out and she was welcomed into the arms of her Saviour.

Anne Marie was the proud and loving mom of her boys Sabastian and Colton. Together, with her parents Herb & Peggy Zavitz, they attended and coached the boys’ games and created an amazing bond filled with incredible memories. Anne Marie grew up on the family farm just outside of Thedford along with her big brother Neil who will deeply miss his lil’ sis. Anne Marie will be missed by her sister Doris (Dave) VanDerEnde and Valerie Zavitz (October 22, 2018). Loved and missed by Jason Koolen.

Anne Marie was part of a very close knit extended family. Cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and grandparents were always close by, relationships that were both family and friends.

Anne Marie grew into a woman whose love and huge pride for her boys was above all else in her life and C-Bass and Colton provided Anne Marie with more to be proud of daily. A coach and an athlete, Anne Marie was a friend and talented team player. Anne Marie’s love of life on the ice began as early as 2 years old as she began her figure skating career. Figure skating then turned to hockey, beginning in her early years on the Country Starfires Girls Team and Thedford Minor Hockey from Atom through Bantam teams with the boys, Forest Minor Hockey Intermediate Girls Team, the Championship Winning Lambton Vipers and numerous others including the All Star Team. With maturity, Anne Marie went on to play on a number of ball teams, including the Family Ties Team and most recently for the Black Hawks Ball Team. Hockey was always the winter theme however as Anne Marie continued to play for the hockey teams Cross Checkers and the Legacy Ladies Red and Black Teams.

Anne Marie could swing a bat, slide across a base or make a great wrist shot, but also had a tender, caring and compassionate side which she showed freely to family and friends as well in her work as a PSW where she was loved by those she worked with and their families.

On Friday, October 26 from 2pm-4pm and 6:30pm-9pm a visitation will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 182 Main St, in Thedford. Saturday, October 27 at 11am we will join together at Knox Presbyterian Church in a service of celebrating Anne Marie’s life. Friend and teammate Rev. Dr. Christine O’Reilly officiating. The family ask that you show your team spirit and share in the love that Anne Marie had for sports by wearing your team jersey for the service.

In honour of the love and time Anne Marie had in the local Lambton Shores Minor Hockey Association, donations are appreciated toward an annual award for youth in the local minor hockey association to be set up in Anne Marie’s name. Donations may also be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association. Please leave a special memory or condolence online at www.GilpinFuneralChapel.com
