Obituary for Suzanne "Sue" Van Ekeren (Brownlee)

Suzanne "Sue" Van Ekeren (Brownlee)
Van Ekeren, Suzanne Louise of Sarnia passed away peacefully at Bluewater Health on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.
Cherished Mom to Anita (Van Ekeren) Fioroni (Michael Fioroni) and Quincy Van Ekeren (Rachel McGrath), their Father of her children Paul Van Ekeren. Sue was the proud Grandmother of Justice Fioroni. A sister loved by Irene & Mike Rose, Charles & Teri Brownlee and Glenda & Barry Tidball. Beloved daughter of the late Charles and Margaret Brownlee and sister Anita Duncan.

After years of health concerns and complications Sue succumbed to her condition following a spinal cord injury in 2014. Her courage and strength where admired by all around her as she taught us the meaning of perseverance, defying all medical odds, again and again, and enjoying proving the doctors wrong.

Sue lived and died on her own terms, with her loved ones surrounding her and a song in her heart. Sue brought joy to all those who knew her. In spite of everything, Sue faced her physical challenges, much in thanks to the support of those we affectionately refer to as Sue’s Army – those who regularly supported her through her disability.

Even during these times of struggles Sue continued to make friends, tell jokes, and inspire those around her, including the incredible workers with Pathways and The March of Dimes. A strong woman now free of a broken body, mended and restored.

A celebration of life for Sue will be held at Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 608 Errol Road West in Sarnia on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11:00am with visitation starting at 10:00am. Memorial donations in Sue’s name are appreciated to The March of Dimes or Parkwood Institute London. Arrangements entrusted to
